A judicial and political revenge
To understand the magnitude of this victory, we have to go back a year earlier. In April 2025, Tatiana Auguste had already won the election in Terrebonne, but the Supreme Court of Canada ordered its annulment due to technical irregularities in the management of polling stations. A decision experienced as a cold shower by the candidate, but also as an injustice by part of the local community. Far from giving up, the one we now nickname “the resilient one of Terrebonne” took up her pilgrim’s staff, crisscrossed the neighborhoods, increased the number of citizen meetings and transformed the ordeal into a campaign engine.
A celebration surrounded by Liberal Party executives
As soon as the results were officially announced, joy erupted at the Shaker at Galeries Terrebonne, where more than 200 people gathered. Among the distinguished guests were several leading Liberal MPs: Joël Lightbound, Mélanie Joly, Marjorie Michel, as well as Tim Watchorn, MP for Pays-d’en-Haut. In an electric atmosphere, Tatiana Auguste delivered a sober but impactful speech:
“The annulment of my election was not an end, but a beginning. Today, Terrebonne sends me a clear message: perseverance pays, and justice always triumphs in the end. »
A pride for the Haitian diaspora and young people
Born in Haiti and arrived in Canada at the age of 7, Tatiana Auguste embodies a new generation of elected officials with an immigrant background. Her journey – law student, involved in community associations, then candidate despite the cancellation of her first mandate – particularly resonates in a constituency where the issues of housing accessibility, public transportation and support for immigrant families are central.
At 25, she became one of the youngest MPs in Canadian history, and the first elected official of Haitian origin to represent Terrebonne. His victory, acquired in an unfavorable legal context, is hailed as a symbol of democratic resilience.
